At Dental Excellence of Brandon, we offer several surgical procedures to help restore your full oral health; one of which is flap surgery, which cleans, repairs, or restructures teeth and the surrounding bone structures. The surgery involves cutting and lifting back a section of the gum tissue to expose the roots of the teeth and surrounding jaw bone tissue. Dr. Conte is trained to perform flap surgeries, but may refer you to a specialist if your case is particularly complex. He will consult with you about your oral health and treatment before performing your procedure or referring you to a trusted specialist.

You will be given a local anesthetic to numb the area, and then our dentist will proceed with your treatment. Flap surgery typically takes about 1-3 hours – depending on the severity and damage. The sutures will stay in place for about a week and then be removed. You will be given an antibiotic, as well as pain medication to help with pain and discomfort, following the procedure.

You will need to have someone drive you to your appointment and take you home afterwards. Throughout the procedure, you will be monitored, to ensure all is going well. If at any time, you feel discomfort, please let us know and we will act accordingly.

There are several benefits to getting a gum flap procedure, including supporting, repairing, and re-growing healthy tissues in the affected area. The surgery can also reduce infection, pain, and loss of function in the jaw. We hope you will contact us at 813-681-5515 for more information and to schedule your appointment at our dental office in Brandon, Florida
